FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University field hockey team returns to University Field this weekend to host Villanova University on Friday and Lehigh University on Sunday, kicking off the home portion of their 2025 schedule.
The Stags began their season with a pair of road games,including a contest against 11th-ranked Syracuse University. Freshman Kaelyn Fogelson and pilar Mengotti each scored a goal during the weekend, both finding the back of the cage against syracuse in a 5-2 setback. Goalkeeper Peyton Rahn recorded 11 saves across the two games, averaging 5.5 saves per game – placing her among the top five in the Northeast Conference for saves per game. She had five saves against Lafayette and six against Syracuse.
Villanova also faced a nationally-ranked opponent in its opening weekend,falling to fourth-ranked Maryland and dropping a 3-2 decision to James Madison University. Ava Borkowski scored both Villanova goals against JMU, with Maddi Sears making three saves in that game and another three against Maryland, all in the first half.Lehigh opened its season with a 4-0 victory over La Salle University, secured by goalkeeper Kate BurgessS one-save shutout. Ella Stephenson scored two goals for Lehigh, while Kiki Mes added a goal and an assist.
Following this weekend, fairfield will embark on a five-game road trip, begining with games against columbia University (September 12) and Brown University (September 14). The trip continues with northeast Conference matchups against Wagner College (September 19), Merrimack College (September 26), and Stonehill College (September 28).
