St. Pete’s New Barack Obama Main Library to Host Community Open House
St.Petersburg, FL – November 12, 2023 – The City of St. Petersburg will celebrate the completion of its landmark Barack Obama Main Library with a community open house, offering residents a first look inside the state-of-the-art facility. The event will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 325 2nd Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
the opening of the Barack Obama Main library marks a notable investment in literacy, technology access, and community engagement for St.Petersburg. Replacing the previous main library, which served the city for decades, the new 160,000-square-foot building provides expanded collections, dedicated spaces for children and teens, a community meeting room, and advanced digital resources.The project, years in the making, aims to serve as a central hub for learning and civic life, offering opportunities for all residents to connect, explore, and grow.
The open house will feature self-guided tours of the library, interactive demonstrations of new technologies, and family-pleasant activities. Attendees can explore the library’s diverse collection, learn about available programs and services, and meet library staff. The event is free and open to the public.
Construction on the $69.6 million library began in 2020.The building’s design incorporates sustainable features and aims to achieve LEED Gold certification. The library is named in honor of former President Barack Obama, recognizing his commitment to education and community service.
