Scientist Claims 5-Day ‘Fasting Mimicking Diet‘ Could extend Lifespan to 120 Years
ROME – A biochemist and university researcher is gaining attention for his claims that a specific diet, inspired by familial longevity and observations of obesity, could allow individuals to live up to 120 years. Dr. Valter Longo, 57, outlined the “Fasting Mimicking Diet” in recent statements to Corriere della Sera.
Dr. Longo’s research stems from a career shift sparked during a period in Chicago, where he initially pursued music before dedicating himself to science and the study of aging. The diet, he explains, aims to restore bodily balance and considerably reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
The 5-day diet consists of meals centered around soups – such as mushroom, tomato, or minestrone – alongside quinoa. Snacks include kale crackers, chocolate bars, salted olives, and garlic, with orange juice as a beverage option. Dr. Longo recommends repeating the diet every three to six months.
He also noted the importance of considering existing medications, consulting a physician, and monitoring insulin levels. The potential benefits of drugs like GLP-1, already used in patient treatment, were also highlighted as a possible aid to success.
