Everybody’s Talking About Jamie: How to Stream the Movie for Free in the UK Now
The film adaptation of the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is currently available for free streaming in the UK via Channel 4’s on-demand service, though viewers have a 29-day window to watch before it is removed from the platform.
The film, which premiered in 2021, follows the story of Jamie New, a 16-year-old schoolboy in Sheffield navigating challenges related to intolerance from school staff, bullying, and his father’s initial resistance as he pursues his dream of becoming a drag queen. Max Harwood, who played Jamie, received the Rising Star – Film award for his performance at the 2021 Digital Spy Reader Awards.
The production boasts a notable cast including Sarah Lancashire, Sharon Horgan, Richard E Grant, Ralph Ineson, Samuel Bottomley, Shobna Gulati, and Lauren Patel. Critics have largely praised the film, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting an 81% positive score based on 107 reviews. RogerEbert.com described the film as “a heartwarming musical with the performances to really make it shine,” while Time Out called it “one of the sweetest gay films to come out of England since Beautiful Thing.” The Guardian lauded the film as “big-hearted” and “feelgood,” singling out Richard E Grant’s performance as a “scene-stealer,” though it noted the film adhered somewhat closely to a familiar “Britfilm plucky outsiders template.”
While critical reception was strong, audience scores on IMDb are lower, averaging 6.6 out of 10. Despite this, many viewers have expressed strong positive reactions, with one fan describing it as a film “that will be watched again, and again, given that it’s f**king brilliant.”
The screenplay was penned by Tom MacRae, a writer known for his work on Doctor Who, and the music was crafted in part by Dan Gillespie Sells of the band The Feeling. The film is available to stream on Channel 4 and through a subscription to Prime Video.
Sheffield-based production company Warp Films, the team behind Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, as well as This is England and Four Lions, recently received investment from Channel 4’s Indie Growth Fund, signaling plans for further productions in the region.
Tina Fey and Jamie Dornan are set to host the UK version of Saturday Night Live, which launches this weekend on Sky, according to reports from March 20th.
