Ally McCoist Questions Second Tottenham Goal⁢ in Everton Defeat

LIVERPOOL – Former rangers‍ and Scotland striker Ally McCoist expressed surprise at a decision during Everton’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on October 28th, believing Micky Van de ven’s second goal should have been‍ disallowed due to a‍ foul on ⁣Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Speaking on talkSPORT on October 29th, McCoist highlighted Everton’s defensive struggles from set-pieces, conceding three‌ headers – a first for the club since 1996. However, he specifically questioned the legitimacy of Van de Ven’s goal just before halftime.

“It ⁢was really uncharacteristic to see Everton defend so poorly at set-pieces,” ⁤McCoist stated. “I thought it was a free-kick for Everton when Van de Ven pushed Pickford. There’s‌ no real consistency with those sorts of decisions.”

The incident ⁢occurred during a corner⁢ kick, with ‍Van de Ven scoring his second goal of the match. Everton fans have⁣ voiced similar concerns, notably after⁢ a goal scored by jake O’Brien was ⁢previously disallowed for obstructing the view of Tottenham goalkeeper Vicario.

The loss to Tottenham adds to scrutiny surrounding refereeing decisions in ‌the‌ Premier League, with ⁢consistency remaining a persistent ‍issue, especially since the introduction of VAR. Referee ⁤Craig Pawson, who officiated the match, has faced criticism ‌for previous decisions involving Everton.

Everton will look ⁣to address their defensive vulnerabilities, particularly from set-pieces, as they prepare ⁢to face Sunderland ⁤at the⁢ Stadium of Light‌ on Monday. Sunderland ‍has proven efficient from set-piece situations this season.
