David Moyes Admits Everton first-Half performance Below Standard After Wolves Defeat
Everton manager David Moyes explained teh seven changes to his starting lineup for the Premier League clash against Wolves, admitting the team’s first-half performance fell short of the required level despite an improved second-half showing. The Toffees suffered a defeat, leaving Moyes to assess the impact of rotating his squad and the performance of those given an opportunity.
Moyes handed starts to Seamus Coleman,Tim Iroegbunam, and Mark Travers, alongside four other alterations to the team. He stated the changes weren’t necessarily due to a specific reason, but rather a desire to give players returning to fitness and others within the squad a chance to demonstrate their abilities. “we’ve got a lot of good players and we’ve got players in the squad who are getting back to fitness, some of them who are not,so we wanted to give some of them an opportunity to show what they can do,” moyes said.
When asked if the match represented a missed opportunity against another Premier League side,Moyes responded: “Well,we were coming to another Premier League team,so I don’t think you can say it’s a missed opportunity. I don’t know if Wolves would have said the same, but we’re disappointed.”
Moyes acknowledged the team’s struggles in the first half, but also suggested Wolves didn’t perform at their best. “We didn’t play at the level in the first half, but I don’t think Wolves did either. I didn’t think they were necessarily any better at that time in the game.”
He further commented on the impact of those introduced into the game, stating: “The players who we introduced made a huge difference to the team. So we want everybody to play at that level.” He added, “They’ve got a level to get up to now because we’ve seen the levels, you saw it in the second half, the performance levels, how much better it was.”
