Mbappé Shines as 10-Man Real Madrid defeat Real Sociedad, Dortmund Cruise to Victory
San Sebastián, Spain – Kylian Mbappé scored and assisted for Arda Guler as Real Madrid overcame a second-half challenge and a numerical disadvantage to defeat Real Sociedad 2-1, maintaining their perfect start to La Liga. Despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the match after Dean Huijsen’s 30th-minute red card for a foul on Mikel Oyarzabal, Real Madrid secured a hard-fought victory.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a swift counter-attack goal. Guler doubled the lead just before halftime, capitalizing on a brilliant run and assist from Mbappé inside a crowded penalty area.
Real Sociedad responded in the 56th minute when Oyarzabal converted a penalty awarded after a handball by Dani Carvajal. Though, Real Madrid’s defense held firm, securing a victory that puts them top of La Liga with 12 points from four matches – three points ahead of Athletic Bilbao, who have a game in hand. Real Sociedad remain winless, sitting in 17th place with two points, narrowly above the relegation zone.
Elsewhere in European club football, Borussia Dortmund earned a 2-0 away win against Heidenheim, who played moast of the game with 10 men.Heidenheim suffered an early blow with a knee injury to leart Paqarada in the 7th minute, followed by Budu Zivzivadze’s 21st-minute red card for a late tackle on Felix Nmecha.
Serhou Guirassy put Dortmund ahead in the 33rd minute, scoring his eighth consecutive league goal with a header. Maximilian Beier extended the lead in first-half stoppage time, tapping in a cutback from Karim Adeyemi. The win moved Dortmund to seven points, temporarily placing them at the top of the Bundesliga table before Bayern Munich’s match against Hamburg.
