Eunpyeong-gu Expands ‘Book Nareum’ Book Delivery Service | Seoul

Seoul’s Eunpyeong District is expanding its “Book-nareum” service this month, a home delivery program designed to increase access to books for residents and create employment opportunities for seniors, officials announced Tuesday.

The service, operated through the Eunpyeong Public Library, originally targeted residents of Jingwan-dong who faced difficulties visiting the library. Now, the eligibility criteria for multi-child families have been relaxed from three or more children to two or more, broadening access for busy families and those raising young children, according to a statement from the Eunpyeong District Office.

“Through the expanded operation of the Book-nareum service, more residents will be able to encounter books in their daily lives,” said Eunpyeong District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung. “We will continue to develop this project as one that encompasses both senior employment and local care.”

The Book-nareum service partners with the Eunpyeong Senior Club to employ local seniors as delivery personnel. This collaboration aims to address both literacy access and senior employment needs within the district. The expansion also includes streamlined application procedures, offering both in-person and non-face-to-face options. Residents can now submit documents electronically after a phone consultation, or visit the library in person.

According to officials, the changes are intended to make the service more convenient for working parents and elderly residents. Details about the Book-nareum service can be found on the Eunpyeong Public Library website (www.edlib.or.kr) or by calling 02-389-7635.
