Eugenio Viola has been dismissed from his position as Artistic Director of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO), the museum announced on February 6, 2026. Viola, who likewise served as Chief Curator, had held the role for an unspecified period.

The decision to remove Viola was made public on Friday, February 6th, according to reports from The Art Newspaper and Artforum. No immediate reason for the dismissal was given by the museum.

Viola’s curatorial work has been featured internationally, including a recent collaboration with Francesca Pietropaolo, as highlighted by The Brooklyn Rail. His departure follows a period of activity at MAMBO, though details of specific exhibitions or initiatives leading up to the dismissal have not been released.

The museum has not yet named an interim or permanent replacement for Viola. As of February 23, 2026, MAMBO has not issued a further statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the change in leadership or its future curatorial direction.

Separately, the museum recently hosted an exhibition by Voluspa Jarpa titled “Sindemia,” as reported by e-flux.com, but the connection, if any, to Viola’s departure remains unclear.
