Global volcanic unrest continues, with heightened activity reported at multiple sites worldwide, posing ongoing risks to nearby populations adn aviation. Recent data indicates persistent eruptions and escalating alert levels across a diverse range of volcanoes, from Indonesia to Central America.
Monitoring data compiled through February 2025 reveals ongoing activity at Santiaguito (Guatemala),Fuego (Guatemala),Semeru (Indonesia),Ibu (Indonesia),Reventador (Ecuador),and several others. Specifically, an effusion of natrocarbonatite lava has been observed inside the pit crater of Planchón-Peteroa (Central Chile and Argentina) as of August 27, 2021. Puracé (Colombia) remains under observation, with the latest report dated January 22, 2025. Puyehue-Cordón Caulle (Central Chile and Argentina) issued a Volcanic Ash Advisory on April 29, 2024, while raung (East Java) and Ruang (Sangihe Islands, Indonesia) both had Smithsonian Daily Volcanic Activity Reports updated on December 24, 2024, and September 11, 2024, respectively.
Rincón de la Vieja (Costa Rica) also saw a Smithsonian Daily Volcanic Activity Report update on october 29, 2023. San Cristobal (Nicaragua) and Taal (Luzon, Philippines) are under Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity report monitoring, with updates from June 9, 2024, and December 3, 2024. Telica (Nicaragua) had its report updated January 15,2025. Tofua (Tonga Islands) was last reported on April 28,2024,while Ubinas (Peru) and Ulawun (New Britain,Papua New Guinea) had updates on November 19,2023,and November 30,2023,respectively. Villarrica (Central Chile) was last reported December 28, 2024, and White Island (New Zealand) issued a Volcanic Ash Advisory on June 9, 2025. seulawah Agam (Sumatra, Indonesia) issued a Volcanic Ash Advisory on november 16, 2024.
