Bayern Impressed as Werder Bremen’s Backup Goalkeeper Hein Shines
MUNICH – Werder Bremen’s backup goalkeeper, Michael Hein, has earned high praise even from rival Bayern Munich following a standout performance in their recent match. The display has sparked discussion about Bremen’s goalkeeping situation, though coach Ole Werner maintains his commitment to current number one, jiri Pavlenka.
Hein was unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight due to an injury to Pavlenka, and seized the opportunity, delivering a performance that nearly thwarted bayern’s attack. bayern’s board member Jan-Christian Dreesen acknowledged Hein’s impact, stating, “I thought that especially the goalkeeper from Werder, and it’s the second one because the first is injured, played a very, very good game. We certainly could have won by a larger margin or else.” This recognition underscores the growing confidence in Bremen’s goalkeeping depth.
Despite the praise, Werder Bremen coach Steffen Werner has affirmed that pavlenka remains the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. “he did a super job and we are very happy to have such a good goalkeeping team. But we started the season with Mio as number 1 and that will not change after one game,” Werner stated.
Though,Pavlenka’s return to the lineup is not imminent. Werner revealed that Pavlenka is experiencing shoulder discomfort. “Mio has something going on with the ligaments in his shoulder. I can’t say for sure yet, but I don’t think he will be fit again for the game against St. Pauli (Saturday, 3:30 PM),” Werner explained.
Werner also emphasized the need for Bremen to address recurring errors that have hindered their ability to secure points. The team will need to minimize mistakes and ball losses to improve their chances against St. Pauli and beyond.
