Singles Stars Set for US Open Mixed Doubles Showdown
The US Open is gearing up for a thrilling mixed doubles competition featuring top singles players, alongside the current champions. This year’s tournament introduces a new format, promising intense matches and exciting partnerships during Fan Week.
New Format, Familiar Faces
The defending champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, look to defend their title. They’ve already clinched two mixed doubles major titles, including the recent Roland Garros trophy. The USTA has revamped the event, creating a 16-team field scheduled for August 19-20.
Matches will be best-of-three sets, using no-ad scoring. A 10-point super-tiebreak will decide the final set. Sets will be short sets, first to four games, or a tiebreak played at 4-4, except the final, which will be first to six games, with a tiebreak played at 6-6.
Star-Studded Lineup
The initial entry list includes 16 teams, featuring WTA and ATP tour singles stars. The only players in the current top 11 of either tour not entered are Coco Gauff and Holger Rune.

Past Successes
Outside of Errani and Vavassori, only Townsend and Pegula have previously reached a Grand Slam mixed doubles final. Townsend was the 2024 US Open runner-up, while Pegula secured the same position at the 2023 US Open.
Four teams have played together before. Danilovic and Djokovic had a 2-0 record at the 2024 United Cup; Andreeva and Medvedev lost in the first round of the 2024 Paris Olympics; and Badosa and Tsitsipas lost in the first round of the 2024 US Open.
Looking Ahead
The entry window ends on July 28. The top eight teams, based on combined singles rankings, will get direct acceptance. The remaining eight teams will receive wild cards, which will be announced later.
