Eric Dane: Final Words, ALS Battle & Tributes from Stars

A posthumous interview with actor Eric Dane, recorded in secret and intended for release only after his death, debuted on Netflix this week, revealing a deeply personal message for his two daughters. Dane, known for his roles in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria,” died February 19, 2026, less than a year after announcing his diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease.

The interview, titled “Famous Last Words: Eric Dane,” is part of a series originating in Denmark, where individuals share their final thoughts with the understanding the footage will not be aired until after their passing. Brad Falchuk, an executive producer on the Netflix series, conducted the interview with Dane last November, with only a minimal production crew present – camera operators were stationed in a separate room to ensure Dane’s complete candor, according to reports. Falchuk has already recorded five such conversations, with plans for more.

In the interview, Dane imparted four key life lessons he wished to share with his daughters, Billie and Georgia. He urged them to “live in the present,” reflecting on his own tendency to dwell on the past and worry about the future. “The past contains regrets. The future remains unknown. So you have to live now. The present is all you have. Treasure it, cherish every moment,” he said. He also encouraged them to “fall in love,” not necessarily romantically, but to find a passion that ignites their spirit and provides purpose.

Dane also spoke candidly about his beliefs regarding the afterlife, stating, “I think when the lights go out, it’s over. I do believe that once we go to sleep or however it is we — we go, once we’re gone, we’re gone.” The actor’s final message centered on the importance of presence in the lives of those he loved, recalling his attendance at his daughters’ activities, from beach volleyball games to dance recitals, even admitting to having seen “The Nutcracker” multiple times.

The 50-minute documentary premiered on Netflix following the announcement of Dane’s death, offering a poignant and intimate glimpse into his final reflections. Jane Goodall’s interview was the first episode released in the series, having aired after her death last October. Netflix offers the series in multiple subscription tiers, ranging from €4.99 to €19.99 per month.
