The final interview with actor Eric Dane, recorded under the agreement it would only be released after his death, began streaming on Netflix this week as part of the docuseries “Famous Last Words.” Dane, known for his roles in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria,” died February 19, 2026, less than a year after announcing his diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

The 50-minute documentary features Dane reflecting on his life and delivering a message to his daughters, Billie and Georgia, whom he shared with Rebecca Gayheart. According to NBC News, Dane expressed a belief that consciousness ceases at death, stating, “I think when the lights go out, it’s over… once we’re gone, we’re gone.” He also hoped his daughters would remember his presence in their lives, recalling attending their beach volleyball games, dance recitals, and numerous performances of “The Nutcracker.”

The interview was conducted by executive producer Brad Falchuk, using remote cameras to maintain privacy. The premise of “Famous Last Words,” which originated in Denmark, involves interviewing individuals with the understanding that the footage will not be released until after their passing. Dane’s interview is the second episode of the series; the first featured primatologist Jane Goodall, who died in October 2025.

News of Dane’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues. Following his passing, Netflix officially added “Famous Last Words: Eric Dane” to its library. The actor’s family released a statement noting he died surrounded by loved ones, with his daughters at the center of his world.

The documentary highlights Dane’s career trajectory, from his breakthrough role as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on “Grey’s Anatomy” to his more recent, critically acclaimed performance as Cal Jacobs in HBO’s “Euphoria.” He reportedly invested significant effort into the latter role, marking a dramatic shift in his career. Falchuk has already recorded five conversations for future episodes of the series, with plans for more.
