England Bowler Josh Tongue Ruled Out of Australia White-Ball Tour

November 7, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Due to a toe injury, Josh Tongue has been ruled out of England’s forthcoming white-ball tour of Australia. The 28-year-old suffered the injury in Pakistan last month and missed the final two games of that tri-series.

He will now return to the United Kingdom for further assessment. This means he misses the one-day and T20 matches in Australia, which begin with an ODI in Perth on 13 November.

Tongue has taken 46 wickets in 17 matches this year. The squad is set to be named next week, and he is expected to return for the three-match Test series in South Africa in December. The white-ball tour of Australia marks the first time England has played down under since the 2025-26 Ashes demolition.

Ahead of next year’s World Cup in southern Africa, coach Brendon McCullum previously mentioned his desire for a powerful lineup during the ODI portion of the Australian trip. The New Zealand boss also admitted that England’s packed winter schedule—featuring five distinct overseas tours—means he will need to shuffle his personnel for the T20 matches.

Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer Lead Warm-Up Win in Perth

During their one-day warm-up fixture in Perth, England defeated Western Australia by 92 runs as Adil Rashid claimed four scalps. Having missed the final three fixtures of October’s tour to Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the 38-year-old proved his worth in Australia by finishing with figures of 4-35. Fast bowler Jofra Archer chipped in with 3-34 as England cruised to victory.

The match brought some challenges alongside the win. A sloppy batting display saw England bowled out for 251. Ben Duckett top-scored with 49, while Liam Dawson remained unbeaten on 44. The hosts pushed England early by reaching 60-1 before Rashid claimed a flurry of wickets, including Jayden Goodwin and Ashton Turner in successive deliveries. Archer then dismantled the Western Australia tail, bowling them out for 159 to secure the result.
