emory Men’s Soccer Remains Undefeated, Secures 10th Win wiht Cubeddu’s Four-Goal Performance
ATLANTA, GA – The No.2 Emory University men’s soccer team continued its dominant season Saturday night, defeating Sewanee 5-0 and extending its winning streak to 10 games. Graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu led the Eagles with a record-tying four goals, marking the first time an Emory player has achieved this feat as 2005.
Cubeddu’s performance makes him the sixth player in program history to score four goals in a single game, equaling the program record. he opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a 28-yard chip following a pass from Adeyemi Oni. He doubled Emory’s lead ten minutes later, skillfully maneuvering past two Sewanee defenders. Cubeddu completed a first-half hat trick just before halftime, showcasing impressive dribbling to find the left side netting. His fourth and final goal came in the 70th minute, a 35-yard strike. the four goals bring his season total to 10, and marked his fifth consecutive game with a score.
Junior logan Steren also contributed to the Eagles’ offensive output,heading in a Jack Burgess free kick for his third goal of the season in the 43rd minute.
The victory keeps Emory perfect on the season at 10-0, a milestone reached only four previous times in program history (2003, 2005, 2007, and 2008). This 10-game winning streak is the first for emory since 2014 and is tied for the third-longest in team history.
Sewanee, previously 8-0-2, was held scoreless for only the second time this season. Emory now turns its attention to conference play, traveling to No. 24 Carnegie Mellon for its UAA opener next Sunday, October 5 in Pittsburgh.
