“The Boys” Composer Wins First emmy, Kendrick Lamar Adds to His Collection at 2025 Creative Arts Emmys
Los Angeles, CA – The 2025 Creative Arts Emmy awards, held September 7th and 8th, celebrated the exceptional musical talent powering television’s biggest hits. Composer Christopher Lennertz took home the prize for outstanding Original Music and lyrics for his unexpectedly festive track, “Let’s Put the christ Back in christmas,” featured in the hit series The Boys.
Lennertz’s win marks his first Emmy Award, following two previous nominations. He bested a competitive field including songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-lopez and Robert Lopez (“The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” from Agatha All Along), Nicholas Britell and Tony Gilroy (“We Are the Ghor (Planetary Anthem)” from Andor), comedic force Adam Sandler and Dan Bulla (“Adam Sandler’s Song: 50 Years” from SNL50: The Anniversary Special), and the team of Sean Douglas, Kristen wiig, and Josh Greenbaum (“Harper and Will Go West” from Will & Harper).
The awards also recognized excellence in scoring.Theodore Shapiro was honored with the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) award for his work on the critically acclaimed series Severance. Mick Giacchino received the Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited or Anthology Series,Movie,or special (Original Dramatic score) for the Penguin.
beyond thes wins, the 2025 Emmys showcased a remarkable roster of nominated musicians, including industry giants like Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Kamasi Washington, caroline Shaw, Hamilton Leithauser, Mark Ronson, Hans Zimmer, Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, and Ahmir “Questlove” thompson of the Roots.
Adding to his growing list of accolades, Kendrick Lamar secured his second Emmy Award last week with a win for Outstanding Music Direction for The apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Starring Kendrick Lamar. The halftime show itself garnered seven nominations, solidifying Lamar’s position as a leading creative force.
