DS Thea Ramsden discovers her father is Steve Marchant, as revealed in new Emmerdale spoilers, revealing a detail behind her vendetta against Kim Tate in the ITV soap opera.
The Confrontation That Unlocked a 1999 Adoption
The storyline began with the police officer arriving in the village carrying a heavy grudge against millionaire Kim Tate, played by Claire King, according to radiotimes.com. Chelsea Edge plays the copper who tried to frame Kim for causing death by dangerous driving and reported her to social services. A flashback scene later established that Kim gave Thea up for adoption in 1999.
The truth emerged during a scuffle at Home Farm where Kim accidentally stabbed Thea. Rushing her to the hospital, Kim looked at her driver’s license, noted her full name—Anthea—and realized the connection. radiotimes.com reported that the two women shared an emotional conversation about the past 27 years, during which Kim learned her daughter’s adoptive mother died after Thea turned seven.
Thea Lies to Police and Learns About Her Father
Following the hospital visit, radiotimes.com noted that Thea lied to investigating police, claiming she had intervened with poachers on the Home Farm Estate. Although Kim wants to make amends, Thea acknowledged that her initial impression of her mother requires adjustment.
During a difficult exchange about the family history, Thea asked about her father. Kim blurted out that her ex-husband, Steve Marchant, is the biological father.
The History of Steve Marchant
Paul Opacic originally played Steve Marchant on the show between 1996 and 1999. Steve became engaged to Kim after facing financial troubles and later plotted to steal a horse from a business rival. During the theft, he struck Kathy Bates with his car and attempted to smother her in the hospital.
radiotimes.com detailed how Kim attempted to help Steve flee the country, only for him to be arrested at the airport for theft and attempted murder. A subsequent feud erupted when Steve learned Kim was trying to frame him. Steve pleaded guilty at their trial and received a 10-year prison sentence, while Kim received a 12-month sentence after fleeing the village in a helicopter the night before the verdict.
As the narrative progresses, questions remain regarding whether Thea will attempt to track down Steve Marchant now that she knows his identity.
