Eminem Documentary, ‘Stan,’ to Premiere on Max This November
A new documentary exploring the intense connection between Eminem and his fanbase, titled ‘Stan,’ will debut on Max on November 22nd, 2023. The film, co-produced by Eminem himself (Marshall Mathers), originally premiered at SXSW London in March 2023.
the documentary draws its name and inspiration from Eminem’s 2000 hit song “Stan,” which features a fan’s increasingly obsessive letters to the rapper. The film expands on this theme, following a group of real-life fans – selected from a survey distributed by eminem’s team in 2022 – whose experiences mirror the song’s narrative. Over 7,000 fans applied to participate in the project, according to producers.
‘Stan’ isn’t solely focused on fandom, but delves into the dynamic between Eminem’s public persona and his private life. The film incorporates stylized recreations, rare archival footage spanning his 30+ year career, and an exclusive new interview wiht Eminem. It also features contributions from Drake and Rihanna, who offer perspectives on Eminem’s impact.
The documentary is directed by Joseph Kahn, known for his work directing numerous eminem music videos, including “Without Me,” “Don’t Ask,” and “Big Shot.” Kahn’s long-standing collaboration with Eminem provides unique access and insight into the artist’s world.
Recent coverage includes Jo Whiley’s recollection of a challenging 2002 interview with Eminem and Dr. dre,describing the experience as intimidating. eminem’s most recent album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),’ released in july 2023, received a three-star review from NME, with critics praising the track “Temporary” as a moving tribute to his daughter, Hailie Jade mathers.
‘Stan’ is produced by Paul Rosenberg’s Goliath Productions and Eminem’s Shady Films. The film aims to provide a thorough look at Eminem’s career and the passionate community that has supported him throughout his decades in music.
