Embiid Questionable vs. Bulls: Sixers Injury Report & Playoff Push
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is listed as questionable to play in Wednesday’s home game against the Chicago Bulls, marking a potential return after a 13-game absence due to a right oblique strain, the team announced Tuesday evening.
Embiid sustained the injury during the Sixers’ 126-121 victory over the Miami Heat on February 26th, shooting 8-for-20 from the field and finishing with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. His absence has coincided with a 6-7 stretch for Philadelphia, which is currently battling for playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference.
The team has indicated a “50-50 shot” for Embiid’s return, according to reports. He has participated in individual on-court workouts and portions of team shootarounds in recent days, signaling progress in his recovery. Prior to the oblique strain, Embiid had also been managing a stress reaction in his right shin and a right knee issue, keeping him sidelined for several games around the All-Star break.
Alongside Embiid’s uncertain status, starting guard Quentin Grimes is also questionable for Wednesday’s contest due to an illness that caused him to miss Monday’s 126-119 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Despite the potential return of Embiid, the Sixers will be without several key players. All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey remains out with a little finger sprain, as does starting wing Kelly Oubre Jr. Due to an elbow sprain. However, forward Paul George is set to return Wednesday after completing a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy.
The Sixers (39-33) currently hold the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, one game behind the Atlanta Hawks and a half-game ahead of the Orlando Magic with 10 regular season games remaining. The Bulls (29-42) are further down the standings and will be without several players themselves, including Jaden Ivey, Zach Collins, and Noa Essengue.
