Ember and Blade: Rune System Revealed & 2024 Global Release Date
LINE Games has updated the trial version of its upcoming survival action game, Ember and Blade, with a new “Rune” system, and announced plans for a global launch later this year.
The update, released on March 25, 2026, introduces Runes that enhance weapon actions, aiming to deepen combat immersion and impact, according to a statement from LINE Games. Ember and Blade blends elements of the “soulslike” and survival genres, casting players as a demon hunter granted temporary immortality through a pact with an angel, tasked with preventing the resurrection of a powerful archdemon.
Beyond the Rune system, the update as well reveals “Arcana” and “Rifts” – randomly appearing in-game fissures that offer players Arcana, which can be combined to create strategic builds. Fifty-four types of Arcana have been added, categorized as either large or modest. Large Arcana define core build directions, often with powerful effects but also conditions or drawbacks, significantly altering playstyle. Small Arcana provide flexibility and synergy, enhancing existing builds with potential limitations. The developers stated the Arcana system is designed to offer diverse build options for each playthrough, influencing blessings, weapons, and even dodge mechanics.
The trial version also features a revised boss encounter with Baphomet, the first chapter’s boss, including new attack patterns and improved AI. Enemy attack telegraphs for higher-level monsters have also been enhanced to improve player responsiveness and feedback.
LINE Games stated it is continuing to optimize and update the game based on player feedback, with another content update planned for next month. The company aims to formally release Ember and Blade globally later in 2026. A LINE Games representative indicated the team is focused on maximizing the game’s potential within the genre.
The game features a distinctive low-saturation visual style and a high degree of freedom in character progression, designed to create a combat experience that balances strategy and individual player expression.
