Elversberg Comeback: 2-1 Win Over Dresden in Bundesliga 2 Top Match
A late surge propelled SV Elversberg to a 2-1 victory over Dynamo Dresden at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion on Saturday, halting Dresden’s unbeaten start to 2026 and shifting the promotion landscape in the 2. Bundesliga.
Alexander Rossipal had given Dynamo Dresden the lead in the 12th minute, converting a powerful left-footed shot. The goal appeared to set the tone for a home victory, but Elversberg responded with increased intensity after the interval.
The turning point came with a quickfire double from Elversberg. Mickelson equalized shortly after the restart, and Petkov then capitalized on a rebound from Dresden goalkeeper Schreiber to position the visitors ahead. Petkov’s contribution extended beyond scoring, as he later made a crucial goal-line clearance to preserve Elversberg’s lead.
A late goal from BambaséConté was initially awarded, extending Elversberg’s lead, but was subsequently disallowed by referee Braun following a VAR review, which determined the goal was scored with a hand ball and that Schnellbacher was offside in the build-up. The VAR check caused a significant delay in the match, adding to the tension in the closing minutes.
Dresden pressed for an equalizer in the final stages, with Kristof making two crucial saves to deny Lemmer, and Herrmann. Despite eight minutes of added time, Dynamo were unable to break down a resolute Elversberg defense. Frederik Schmahl replaced Felix Keidel in the 89th minute after Keidel suffered a cramp.
The result sees Elversberg climb to a direct promotion spot, at least temporarily, while Dynamo Dresden remain near the bottom of the table. Dresden’s next challenge is an away match against Hannover 96 on Sunday.
