Elliot Cadeau Leads Michigan Past Oregon State With 27 Points
Michigan Secures 98-93 Exhibition Victory Behind Cadeau’s Second-Half Surge
Elliot Cadeau scored 26 of his game-high 27 points in the second half and added eight assists to lead the University of Michigan men’s basketball team to a 98-93 exhibition victory over Oregon State on Friday night (Oct. 16) in front of 10,091 fans at Crisler Center, mgoblue.com reported.
Four Wolverines finished in double figures during the tightly contested matchup. Moustapha Thiam added a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds while contributing five assists, two steals, and a block. Trey McKenney chipped in 18 points, and Quinn Costello contributed 10 points off the bench. Michigan shot 50.7 percent from the field, hitting 34 of 67 shots, and dished out 18 assists.
Oregon State and Michigan Trade Leads Before Halftime
The contest opened with frequent momentum swings as Oregon State claimed an early 12-7 advantage. Michigan responded when Costello and Thiam hit back-to-back three-pointers to push the score to 22-17 midway through the opening half. The Wolverines extended that margin to 39-26 following a Kenny Noland layup with 4:06 remaining on the clock. However, the Beavers answered with a 16-6 run to narrow the deficit to 45-42 at halftime.
Oregon State maintained that pressure into the second half, seizing a 53-50 lead less than four minutes into the period. Cadeau, who scored just one point in the first half, ignited the Michigan offense by scoring seven of the team’s first nine points after the break to restore the lead.

Michigan Mounts Decisive Run to Secure Late Lead
Neither team managed to pull away significantly as the second half featured 18 lead changes and 11 ties, with neither side leading by more than six points. Oregon State held a 76-74 advantage with just over seven minutes left to play before Michigan mounted a decisive 9-1 run. That surge began with a high-flying alley-oop dunk from Cadeau to Thiam, followed immediately by a Cadeau three-pointer that put the Wolverines ahead 79-76.
Thiam and McKenney added crucial baskets to stretch the lead to 83-77 with 5:27 remaining. The Beavers clawed back to within one point at 89-88 with 1:46 left on the clock, but Cadeau answered with a vital layup and sealed the outcome by sinking four free throws in the final 70 seconds. Costello added two more from the charity stripe with 19 seconds remaining to secure the five-point win.
Michigan’s defensive pressure proved decisive, as the Wolverines converted 17 Oregon State turnovers into 31 points while committing just seven turnovers themselves. Michigan also dominated inside, outscoring the Beavers 48-32 in the paint. This performance helped offset a rebounding disadvantage, as Oregon State won the boards 37-29, and a cold shooting night from beyond the arc where Michigan managed just 25.8 percent by hitting 8 of 31 three-point attempts.
Upcoming Exhibition Schedule in Grand Rapids
