Elham Shahin holds event featuring AI documentary and book on her career
Egyptian actress Elham Shahin concluded her extended summer stay in the North Coast, marking the end of a season that stretched far beyond her usual July-through-September schedule, according to reporting by almasryalyoum.com.
Book Launch Documenting a Career
The event featured an artificial intelligence-generated documentary film tracing her artistic milestones. The publication examines her body of work across approximately 105 films, focusing particularly on the influence of ten specific directors who shaped her trajectory. The launch event was moderated by journalist and critic Mohamed Abdel Rahman, and attended by figures including Amir Shahin, Father Botros Daniel, media personality Omar Zahran, director Hany Lashin, critic Maha Matbouli, media figures Poussy Shalaby and Nehal Tagle, and journalist Gamal Abdel Nasser. During the event, author Ziad Karim discussed his private library of Shahin’s works and presented her with a custom calendar inspired by the book’s chapters, while Shahin shared previously unknown stories involving the directors featured in the text, and noted that her brother Amir Shahin actually preceded her into acting through the theater and helped discover her.

Censorship and Financial Pressures Burden Egyptian Film Industry
She noted that financial pressures and regulatory restrictions continue to burden the Egyptian film industry, calling for reduced expenses on shooting permits and equipment rather than direct production funding. She revealed that several of her film projects failed to see the light of day because the censorship authorities rejected them despite her strong attachment to the works.
Scheduling Conflicts Lead to Missed Film Roles
She also recalled missed opportunities, mentioning she had been nominated to star in the film Ahlam Hend w Kamelia opposite Naglaa Fathy, but had to step down because director Mohamed Khan changed the shooting schedule, causing the role to go to Aida Reyad, alongside other collaborations she wished for with Youssef Chahine and Hassan El Imam.
Novel Inspirations and Author Insights
During the seminar, Mohamed Abdel Rahman asked Ziad Karim why he released his novel The Fire Seesaw simultaneously with A Date with Elham. Karim explained that as a novelist who builds outward from characters by imagining their features, voices, and movements, he envisioned the young protagonist Madiha—a child living through events connected to Kuwait and Baghdad—by drawing inspiration from the spirit and features of Elham Safieldin, and later imagined the older character living in Alexandria and Los Angeles with the spirit and features of Elham Shahin, describing both as part of his creative inspiration.
