Phoenix Canal Discovery Prompts Sheriff’s Clarification
A woman’s body found near a Phoenix canal on March 7 has not been linked to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, according to authorities in Pima County, Arizona.
Phoenix police responded to a call at approximately 7:40 a.m. local time near 27th Place and Grand Canal Trail. An unresponsive adult female was located on the canal bank and pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by Fox 10 Phoenix.
The Ongoing Search for Nancy Guthrie
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not been advised of any law enforcement activity at the Phoenix canal being connected to the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, according to Fox News Digital reporter Michael Ruiz.
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been missing from her Tucson-area home since February 1.
FBI Scrutinizes Digital Evidence and Surveillance
Federal investigators continue to examine circumstances surrounding the February disappearance.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated on X on February 10 that surveillance footage recovered from the home depicts an armed individual tampering with a camera at the front door.
Additional digital inquiries involve technical disruptions during the night of the disappearance. NewsNation reporter Brian Entin reported on March 6 that the FBI is looking into a possible internet outage, noting that a neighbor’s Ring camera history from that night was mysteriously unavailable.
Family Appeals and Studio Return
Throughout the five-week investigation, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have released multiple video appeals asking for public assistance and addressing their mother’s potential abductors.
On March 6, Savannah Guthrie appeared in the Today studio in New York City to express appreciation to her colleagues for their support.
“I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope, and I’m still me,” she said on the broadcast. “I’m holding onto my faith. I still believe. And as my mom would say, ‘Where else would I go?'”
