Egypt: Family Abandonment & Father Blamed in Alexandria ‘Karmouz Massacre’

March 23, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A young man in Alexandria, Egypt, is in custody after authorities discovered the bodies of his mother and five siblings in their apartment, following a reported suicide attempt by the suspect. The incident, dubbed the “Karmouz Massacre” by local media, has exposed a harrowing tale of alleged neglect, financial hardship, and a mother’s battle with cancer.

The events unfolded after police responded to a call regarding a man attempting to jump from the 13th floor of a building in the Karmouz district. Upon rescuing the man, identified as Ryan, investigators discovered the six bodies inside the family’s apartment, according to reports.

Amani Ibrahim, the lawyer representing Ryan, has alleged that the father, an Arab national residing abroad, bears significant responsibility for the tragedy. Ibrahim claims the father abandoned the family financially, even remarrying and establishing a fresh life while his wife and children struggled with poverty and illness. She stated the mother, identified as Enjy, was battling cancer and repeatedly sought support from her husband, only to be met with rejection and threats, reportedly including a statement that “you won’t be able to enforce judgments against me while I’m outside the country.”

Ibrahim detailed a disturbing scene at the apartment, describing it as a “lake of blood” with the victims bearing deep cuts to their necks and tendons. She further stated that Ryan had been confined with the bodies for five days, from the night of March 16th until Mother’s Day, March 21st.

Adding to the tragedy, Ibrahim revealed that the family of the deceased mother reportedly refused to accept the bodies or provide a burial plot, resulting in their interment in a public cemetery reserved for those without family to claim them. “The scene was humiliating,” Ibrahim said, describing how the mother was washed and buried without the presence of any of her relatives, with strangers taking responsibility for her funeral.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the possibility of a pre-planned agreement between Ryan and his mother to kill his siblings, a claim that has surfaced in local reports. Ryan is reportedly in a state of hysteria and a request has been submitted to the Public Prosecutor in Alexandria for a psychological evaluation.

Ibrahim also announced plans to pursue legal action against the father in the country where he resides, seeking justice for the deaths and the alleged neglect that contributed to the family’s suffering.

The discovery was made after police responded to a report of a man attempting suicide. A forensic examination of the scene revealed multiple razor blades stained with blood, which have been collected as evidence. The victims – a woman in her fifties and five children aged between eight and seventeen – were found fully clothed and exhibiting signs of decomposition.
