Egypt Elections: Mandatory Medical Exams for Candidates

Egypt Mandates Medical Exams for Parliamentary Candidates in Bid for Obvious Elections

Cairo, Egypt – Egypt’s ⁣Ministry of Health ⁢and Population announced Sunday the implementation ⁢of mandatory medical examinations for all‌ candidates vying for seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The move, coinciding with the official call for voters, aims ‍to standardize candidate vetting and ensure the integrity of medical reports⁣ submitted as part of the election process.

According to‍ Ministry ‌spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the complete examinations will encompass ‍thorough health​ checkups, a full suite of laboratory tests, and screenings for drug and alcohol use.These assessments will ⁢be conducted by the Central Laboratory ⁣Directorate and a network of regional provincial⁣ laboratories across the country.

“Our goal is to establish a fair, standardized, and fully transparent medical evaluation process ‍for‌ all prospective candidates,” Abdel Ghaffar stated.”This ensures full compliance with all ​legal requirements and contributes to a more robust and‌ credible⁣ electoral process.”

To facilitate access ⁣for all candidates, the Ministry has ⁤established an ⁢extensive network of⁢ accredited hospitals and medical centers. Services will be‍ readily available in major cities including Cairo, alexandria, and Giza, as well as in all other governorates throughout ‍Egypt – including remote regions like North and South sinai, the red Sea, and Matrouh.

Special provisions‌ have also been made for candidates with disabilities.​ Assessments for these individuals will be conducted by the General ⁢Directorate of Specialized Medical Councils, adhering to the guidelines outlined in Ministerial decree No. 529 of 2025. This‌ decree mandates detailed technical reports outlining the nature⁣ and extent of any disability and its potential impact on a candidate’s ability to⁤ fulfill the duties of office.

The Ministry⁢ emphasized ‍its commitment to⁢ fairness and equal ​opportunity throughout the medical evaluation process, reinforcing its dedication to upholding both medical and legal standards. This initiative represents a critically importent step towards⁤ bolstering ‌the clarity and integrity of Egypt’s parliamentary elections.
