Edsel Dope Reacts to Chuck D and John Densmore’s New Group doPE
Edsel dope, frontman of teh long-running industrial-metal band Dope, has issued a statement regarding the newly announced group doPE comprised of Public Enemy’s Chuck D adn The Doors’ John Densmore.
As reported last week, Chuck D and Densmore formed a bond after meeting at a Record Store Day panel more than a decade ago. They decided to team up as doPE (using the first two letters of “Doors” and the initials of Public Enemy), with plans to release an album on this year’s Record Store Day (April 18th). In fact, their yet-to-be-released single “every tick tick tick” has already been selected as Record Store Day’s global Ambassador Song.
“It’s… interesting,” Dope said in a statement to Consequence. “I mean, it’s Chuck D and John Densmore. That’s a pretty big pairing. I’m sure they’ll make something cool. It’s a smart name, too. They’re definitely capitalizing on the Dope name recognition, which is fine. I’m not mad at it. We’ve been around for a long time, and it’s nice to see our name still has some pull.”
He continued, “I’m genuinely curious to hear what it sounds like. It’s a wholly unexpected collaboration. I wish them all the best. Hopefully, it brings some new fans to both of our bands.”
Dope’s most recent album, Blood Money, arrived in 2021. The band is currently touring in support of the record.
