ECB, Take Her Lead and Metro Bank Partner to Support Women’s Grassroots Cricket
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has partnered with charity Take Her Lead and Metro Bank to expand the grassroots workforce supporting women’s and girls’ recreational cricket across England and Wales. The collaboration expands Take Her Lead’s Women’s Network as part of the Metro Bank Girls in Cricket Fund, providing networking and professional development opportunities across 38 recreational cricket boards.
Expanding the Grassroots Workforce Across 38 Boards
To address this, the new initiative embeds structured networking and professional development tools across 38 recreational cricket boards. According to official program statements, the collaboration specifically aims to reinforce the administrative and coaching pipeline that sustains participation rates at the community level.
Stakeholder Perspectives on Infrastructure Growth
Administrators from all three partnering organizations emphasize that community-level sustainability dictates the long-term health of the sport. Mary Cahill, Head of Operations at Take Her Lead, noted the foundational role played by local communities, stating, “Behind every girl who falls in love with cricket is a community of people who made that moment possible.” Cahill highlighted the organization’s core objective to enable a more inclusive culture, eliminate structural barriers, and build sustainable environments.
According to Barton, women’s and girls’ cricket is experiencing unprecedented momentum, with increasing numbers of players, volunteers, and leaders entering the sport. Barton stressed that maintaining this upward curve depends entirely on the personnel behind the scenes who foster welcoming, inclusive environments within local clubs.
Danielle Lee, Director of Brand and Marketing at Metro Bank, explained that the collaboration builds directly upon the expansion of the Metro Bank Girls in Cricket Fund. Lee noted that the initiative has already tracked significant growth in the sheer volume of registered girls’ teams, driving the decision to partner with Take Her Lead to further support the individuals executing daily operations at the club level.
