Sterling K. Brown Balances Award Recognition and Family Life While Recovering from Injury
LOS ANGELES, CA – November 5, 2023 - Despite a recent Achilles tendon tear, actor Sterling K. Brown confidently accepted his recognition as one of EBONY magazine’s 2025 Entertainment Powerhouses at the EBONY Power 100 Gala held November 4th at The Beverly Hilton.The award celebrates Brown’s continued success both on and off-screen,as he concurrently stars in and executive produces the television series Washington Black and paradise.
With his wife, actress Ryan Michelle Bathe, currently filming on location, Brown is navigating the responsibilities of “dad-on-duty” for their sons, Andrew, 14, and Amaré, 10. The situation highlights the actor’s commitment too both his career and family, demonstrating a resourceful approach to managing professional accolades and personal obligations even while recovering from injury.
“We do it one day at a time,” Brown shared with EBONY during the gala’s portrait session. “You go over the schedule, you make sure you have everything in line. If you have to ask the nanny to stay a little later-like tonight-you say, ‘Yo, I got this event. She’ll come through and help you out.'”
Brown expressed gratitude for his sons’ cooperation,noting their positive behavior and willingness to assist. “I’ve got two good boys. The kids are easy and they’re loving,” he said, sporting a forest green DZOJCHEN suit. “They listen to me and they do what they’re asked to do.” He acknowledged his current physical limitations, adding, “They know that daddy’s gimped up at the time being, so they’re being extra nice. They take it easy on me.”
Even while on crutches, Brown maintains a practical approach to family meals. “I have a pizza that I’ll order,along with chicken wings. If someone doesn’t wont pizza, we’ll get other things. You just take it one day at a time.” Bathe, he indicated, can be assured their sons are well cared for in her absence.
