Greeley,Colo. – The Eastern Washington university volleyball team battled but ultimately fell to Northern Colorado in four sets (25-23, 16-25, 28-26, 25-20) on the road Saturday night. Despite moments of strong play, the Eagles where unable to overcome the Bears’ consistency.
Eastern Washington head coach said, “We had some radiant spots tonight but in the end we just didn’t play well enough when it mattered. We need to be bolder and trust our training.When we do that we are tough to keep down.”
Kalista Lukovich led the Eastern attack with 15 kills and 10 digs, recording a double-double. Judith Bolomboy contributed 10 kills,three blocks,and two service aces,while setter Anna Bolich paced the offense with 30 assists and 13 digs for her own double-double. The Eagles finished with 45 kills and five aces as a team.
After dropping a close first set, Eastern responded with a dominant 25-16 victory in the second, hitting .276 while holding Northern Colorado to .139. The third set was a back-and-forth affair, with EWU falling just short 28-26. Northern Colorado capitalized on that momentum to secure the fourth set and the match.
Eastern Washington (currently in the Big Sky Conference) will return home to host Idaho in its Big Sky home opener and alumni game on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.
