East Hartford High School Holds Halloween Charity Walk to Fund Scholarships
East Hartford High School held its Together We Walk and Run for Education fundraiser on a Saturday morning, combining a 5K run, a 1.5-mile walk, and a festive Halloween costume celebration to support student scholarships and school causes according to FOX61. The event kicked off a community wellness day where students and neighbors turned out in costume to raise money and awareness.
Costumes and Community Wellness at East Hartford High
Participants were encouraged to wear costumes during the Saturday morning event. Freshman Azriel Amoah dressed as Minnie Mouse, wearing a pink Minnie Mouse shirt and a matching headband. Classmate Sierra Ricketts attended as a ladybug, noting that she originally wore the costume for the school’s spirit week the previous week and decided to wear it again for the charity walk.
I really liked that we got our exercise in while doing something that gives back to our community,
Amoah said.
Following the race and walk, attendees visited a health-focused activity fair. Offerings at the fair ranged from mammograms to basketball, allowing students and neighbors to enjoy the Halloween atmosphere while focusing on health and wellness.
Funding Scholarships and School Programs
The money raised from the event will support several vital school causes. Funds will provide mini-grants for teachers and staff looking to start new enrichment programs, support mentoring and networking programs, and fund scholarships for graduating students and alumni.
These scholarships address a significant financial need within the district. According to U.S. News & World Report figures cited by FOX61, 57% of East Hartford students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
