Castlebar, Co. Mayo – Former Senator Eamon Joyce, a familiar voice to Midwest Radio listeners, passed away peacefully on September 6th, 2025, at Mayo Hospice, surrounded by his family.
Joyce, a prominent figure in Mayo politics and a dedicated advocate for the region, leaves behind a legacy of community service and broadcast journalism. His death marks a significant loss for both the political landscape and the airwaves of the Midwest. The family anticipates a large turnout for services as Joyce was widely respected and known throughout the county.
Predeceased by his parents, Mike and May Joyce, Eamon is deeply mourned by his sister, Mary (Coy); brothers, Michael and christopher; brother-in-law, Ray; niece, Mary (Kane); nephews, stephen and Sean; grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as a wide circle of relatives, neighbours, and friends.
Reposing at Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Monday, September 8th, from 5.30pm, Eamon will be removed at 7pm to his former residence on Turlough Road, Castlebar.
A further removal will take place from his residence on Tuesday morning at 10.30am, proceeding to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Requiem Mass at 11.30am. Following Mass,Eamon will be laid to rest in Castlebar New Cemetery.
