English Club Stockport County Reportedly Interested in Hungarian Side DVSC
Debrecen‘s DVSC football club is reportedly attracting interest from an English investor group - the owners of Stockport County FC, currently playing in England’s League One (third division). Multiple Hungarian news outlets, including csakfoci.hu, haon.hu, and nb1.hu, reported on the potential investment this week.
According too data obtained by Nemzeti Sport from an English source, representatives from the Stockport county ownership have already traveled to Hungary to begin negotiations. While a deal is not yet imminent, the potential new owners are believed to favor a restructuring of the club’s management. This new structure would grant greater autonomy in club operations compared to the current framework, which relies heavily on the network of contacts established by minority shareholder Five Eleven Capital.
This potential investment comes amidst ongoing financial uncertainty for DVSC. In September, Nemzeti Sport reported that the Debrecen municipality provided financial assistance to address the club’s liquidity issues. Mayor László Papp attributed these difficulties to stalled negotiations regarding a majority ownership transfer.
Specifically, Five Eleven Capital, which acquired a minority stake in DVSC earlier this year, did not proceed with plans to purchase a majority share from current president Ike Thierry Zaengel. Consequently, the club is currently operating under a temporary board of directors, whose mandate expires at the end of the month, while discussions with potential new majority owners continue.
DVSC has declined to comment on the reports of interest from Stockport County’s owners. Negotiations are ongoing.
