Duchess of Kent Dies: Wimbledon Icon and Royal Family Member

Katharine, Duchess of Kent, Dies at 93

London, September 5, 2025 – Katharine, Duchess of Kent, a working member of the British royal family known for her dedication to music and charity work, has died at the age of 93. The proclamation was made today, marking the end of a life of service spanning over seven decades.

The Duchess passed away peacefully at Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace confirmed. While no cause of death was immediately disclosed,the news arrives just days after a photograph was shared showing the Duchess marking her husband,the Duke of Kent’s,birthday in what would become her final public appearance. Her death represents a significant loss for the royal family and the numerous organizations she supported throughout her life.

Born Katharine worsley on February 22, 1932, she married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, in 1961 at York Minster. The couple had three children: George Windsor, Earl of St andrews; Lady Helen Taylor; and Lord Nicholas Windsor. The Duke of Kent predeceased his wife in 2013.

Beyond her royal duties, the Duchess was a passionate advocate for music education. For many years, she taught music at a school in Hull, northeastern England, and actively supported various charitable causes.She was also a dedicated patron of several organizations focused on healthcare and the arts.

Details regarding funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. The royal family is expected to observe a period of mourning.
