Intoxicated Raccoon Causes Chaos at Virginia Liquor Store on Black Friday
Ashland, VA – Employees of an Ashland, Virginia liquor store received a startling surprise Saturday morning: a break-in… perpetrated by a very inebriated raccoon. The incident occurred at the Ashland ABC store following its Thanksgiving closure, earning it the nickname ”Black Friday break-in” amongst local authorities.
Upon arriving for work, staff discovered a scene of minor devastation – smashed bottles and pooling liquor, with a distinct preference shown for scotch, according to responding officers. The culprit was discovered unconscious in the store bathroom, nestled between the toilet and a waste bin.
Hanover county Animal Control Officer Samantha Martin responded to the scene and transported the “suspect” to the Hanover county Animal Protection and Shelter. Officer Martin allowed the raccoon time to sober up before assessing its condition. Thankfully, after a period of rest, the animal showed no signs of injury beyond a likely hangover.
“The animal had fallen through a ceiling tile and then went on a full-blown rampage, drinking everything it could get its paws on,” Officer Martin stated. While a single, blurry CCTV image captured the incident, the exact quantity of alcohol consumed remains unknown.
The raccoon was afterward released back into the wild, unharmed. The Ashland ABC store expressed its gratitude to the Hanover county Animal Protection and Shelter via social media, thanking them for their professionalism and for providing the unexpected visitor with a ”sober ride home.”
For Officer Martin, the incident was all in a day’s work. “It was just another day in the life of an animal control officer,” she commented.
