Drugs Seized at Today FM & Newstalk Offices: Man Arrested | Dublin
Gardaí arrested an employee of Bauer Media Audio Ireland on Monday following the seizure of €110,000 worth of suspected cannabis at the company’s Dublin headquarters, Marconi House on Digges Lane.
The operation, conducted jointly by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the DMR South Central Divisional Drug Unit, and Revenue’s Customs Service, involved a “controlled delivery” of a parcel containing 5.5kg of cannabis. According to sources, law enforcement allowed the package to be delivered to its intended recipient before making the arrest.
Bauer Media Audio Ireland is the parent company of several Irish radio stations, including Today FM and Newstalk. Even as the seizure occurred at Marconi House, which serves as the headquarters for these stations, authorities have confirmed the arrested individual is not a journalist or member of the editorial staff. The Irish Times reported the employee holds a support role within the organisation.
The cannabis was detected during routine checks of the postal system, which include scanning and the use of sniffer dogs to identify contraband. Revenue officers and Gardaí then executed the controlled delivery operation on Monday, arresting the suspect as he signed for the parcel.
A man in his 30s was taken into custody and is being detained at a Dublin Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, allowing for questioning for up to three days, according to RTÉ. Forensic Science Ireland is currently analyzing the seized substance.
Bauer Media Audio Ireland has declined to comment on the matter, according to reports.
The Gardaí have not released further details regarding the investigation at this time.
