DRK Honors Roughly 150 Blood Donors in Stuttgart

DRK Honors Roughly 150 Blood Donors in Stuttgart

October 29, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Frank Walter from Wutöschingen completed his 150th blood donation in 2025, joining roughly 150 donors recognized on October 1 in Stuttgart by the DRK-Blutspendedienst Baden-Württemberg-Hessen alongside the DRK-Landesverband Baden-Württemberg and the Landesverband Badisches Rotes Kreuz.

    Key Clinical Takeaways:

  • Frank Walter marked his 150th blood donation in 2025, driven by a family member’s historical need for blood transfusions during surgery.
  • The DRK recognized donors with 125 to 250 lifetime donations during an October 1 event in Stuttgart featuring state and Red Cross officials.
  • Men may donate blood up to six times annually, while women are permitted up to four donations per year under current regional guidelines.

Motivation Rooted in Family Medical History

Walter began his donation journey at age 19. His long-standing commitment originated from a severe illness in his family that required blood preserves for a surgical procedure. At that time, he was too young to donate himself, a circumstance that shaped his resolve to contribute once he reached eligible age. Walter stated that he intends to keep donating as long as his health permits, though likely at a reduced frequency. Reflecting on the procedure, he noted that the donation team has consistently been attentive and pleasant, encouraging others to attempt the process.

Stuttgart Ceremony Honors Loyal Blood Donors

The ceremony in Stuttgart honored individuals who completed 125, 150, 175, 200, 225, or 250 donations over the past year. Barbara Bosch, president of the DRK-Landesverband Baden-Württemberg and chairman of the supervisory board of the DRK-Blutspendedienst Baden-Württemberg-Hessen, addressed the attendees. Bosch described the contributions as a silent service to humanity, thanking the honoress for maintaining loyalty to aiding others through unselfishness and solidarity, according to the organization’s announcement.

Petra Krebs, state secretary in the Ministry for Social Affairs, Labor and Health Baden-Württemberg, also addressed the assembly. Krebs emphasized that human blood remains impossible to manufacture artificially, making donor participation vital whenever medical treatment demands transfusions.

Donation Frequency Regulations

Men may donate blood up to six times annually, while women are permitted up to four donations per year under current regional guidelines.
