Holcim to Fuel Peruvian Self-Construction Boom with 100 New Hardware Stores Annually Starting 2026
LIMA, Peru - Holcim, the world’s largest cement company, is launching an aspiring plan to transform Peru’s self-construction sector by opening 100 neighborhood hardware stores each year beginning in 2026.The initiative, spearheaded by Holcim’s Disensa division, aims to professionalize local points of sale and provide access to a wider range of sustainable building materials and expert retail advice.
Peru’s self-construction market is a meaningful economic driver, moving approximately S/ 25,000 million (USD $6.8 billion) annually – representing 4.1% of the nation’s GDP, according to figures commissioned by ADI Peru. However, the sector is plagued by high rates of informality, raising concerns given Peru’s location in a high seismic risk zone. Holcim intends to address these challenges through “innovation, sustainability and professionalization,” offering “greener and more efficient” products via the expanded network.
“We are talking about professionalizing the neighborhood hardware store, and we have not come just to act in Lima,” stated a company representative.”More than a support, it will be a transformation of the point of sale. it means transforming the facade, the layout and the professionalization of the seller to offer a broader, sustainable range of products, and with retail advice.” The project will encompass not only physical upgrades to the stores but also training for staff to enhance their expertise and service offerings.
