Identical Twins Find Relief From Years of Mysterious Head Bumps
Sisters Seek Dermatological Help, Discover Common Cause
For fifteen years, sisters Tracie and Stacie lived with growing, matching bumps on their heads, impacting their daily lives and causing public stares. Now, thanks to a dedicated dermatologist and their own unwavering bond, they’ve found a solution.
A Shared Struggle
The fraternal twins’ bumps, ranging in size from a golf ball to a walnut, affected everything from sleep to hairstyles. Stacie expressed the emotional toll, saying, “It makes me emotional when we’re in public to see people staring, I just feel bad.”
Their daughters encouraged them to seek medical attention, leading them to dermatologist Sandra Lee.

Diagnosis and Treatment
Dr. Lee was initially surprised by the location of the bumps, noting they appeared on the same sides of both twins’ heads. She diagnosed the lumps as pilar cysts—benign growths originating in hair follicles. The sisters made it clear they would face this challenge together. “If Dr Lee were to say ‘Tracie, I can help you, I can remove yours but unfortunately I won’t be able to help Stacie’, I would tell her ‘I thank you very much for your time but I won’t do it,’”
Tracie explained. “We’re in this together and it’s either all in or all out.”
While both sisters had pilar cysts, Dr. Lee noted differences. Tracie’s bumps were larger and softer, while Stacie’s were older and had previously leaked, potentially causing scar tissue and making removal more complex.
A Successful Outcome
Despite the challenges, Dr. Lee confidently proceeded with removing the cysts from both sisters. The extractions weren’t without their moments, even resulting in some fluid splatter during the procedure. However, the sisters were overwhelmingly grateful for the results.
“I can’t say enough about what she’s done and how thankful I am for Dr. Lee removing my problematic bumps,”
Stacie shared. Tracie added, “The embarrassing moments, people looking, not being able to wear my hair up, now that’s a weight lifted off my shoulders that I don’t have to worry about anymore.”
