A new health and rehabilitation suite has opened at Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford, East Sussex, offering support for older adults and individuals managing long-term health conditions. The facility, operated by Wave Active, integrates specialist clinical expertise with advanced neuro-rehabilitation technology, marking a departure from traditional clinical settings for such services.
The suite is staffed by a physiotherapist, a neuro-physiotherapist, and other health practitioners, according to a report from the BBC. Users will have access to technology including augmented reality glasses – the Strolll system – and interactive touchscreen tables designed to aid in therapeutic applications. The Strolll glasses are being used outside of a hospital or clinical environment for the first time in the UK.
Dominic Crowhurst, physiotherapist and head of Wave Active Health, described the facility as a “transformative step forward,” stating that the combination of clinical expertise and neuro-rehabilitation technology will offer “personalised, engaging and effective rehabilitation in a welcoming community setting.”
Wave Active CEO Duncan Kerr said the centre had been designed to “support active ageing, rehabilitation and those living with long-term health conditions.” The approach emphasizes low-impact exercises, suitable for individuals recovering from injury, illness, or surgery, or those returning to activity after a period of inactivity.
Downs Leisure Centre, located on Sutton Road in Seaford, is one of Wave Active’s largest facilities. It offers a range of amenities including a gym, exercise classes, sports halls, outdoor pitches, and a café.
