Donald Glover revealed he suffered a stroke during his Childish Gambino New World tour in September, disclosing the health scare during a performance at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival on November 22. The musician and actor detailed a series of medical issues that led to the tour’s cancellation, including a previously unknown heart condition and a broken foot.
The revelation explains Glover’s abrupt decision to pause the critically acclaimed New world tour, which had begun a month prior in Oklahoma City. The tour supported his latest album, Bando Stone and the New World, and an accompanying film of the same name. Glover’s health issues underscore the physical toll of demanding performance schedules and the importance of prioritizing well-being, even for established artists at the peak of their careers. He is expected to make a full recovery and has indicated a desire to continue performing.
Glover recounted experiencing severe headaches during a show in Louisiana, but proceeded with the performance. His condition worsened, leading him to seek medical attention in Houston, where doctors diagnosed him with a stroke. “I couldn’t really see well,” Glover told the audience. “The doctor was like, ‘you had a stroke.’ And the first thing I thought was like, ‘oh, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx.'”
Further examination revealed a hole in glover’s heart, requiring multiple surgeries. He also disclosed breaking his foot. Despite these setbacks,Glover’s return to the stage at Camp Flog Gnaw appeared triumphant, featuring the live debut of “Psilocybae (Millennial Love)” from his 2024 album Atavistic and a cover of Outkast’s “Prototype” with Ludwig Göransson.
“They say everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realize you have one,” Glover shared with the crowd.”You have one life, guys. You should be living your life how you wont. If we have to do this again, it can onyl get better.”
