Dollar Shave Club Officially Opens durham Headquarters, Citing Quality of Life and Talent
DURHAM, N.C. – Dollar Shave Club celebrated the grand opening of it’s new 17,500 square foot headquarters in Durham Tuesday,marking a significant investment in North Carolina’s growing business landscape. The move from California was driven by Durham’s appealing combination of a strong talent pool, high quality of life, and favorable cost of living for employees, according to company leadership.
The decision to relocate reflects a broader trend of companies seeking alternatives to conventional tech hubs. Dollar Shave Club’s new office, designed to attract rather than require employees to return to in-person work, has initial capacity for 80 employees with potential for future expansion. The company’s arrival adds to a surge of economic progress in the state, with 71 new projects totaling nearly $19 billion in capital investment reported through the second quarter of 2025, including major commitments from companies like JetZero.
“It’s really the opportunity to come to a great market with great talent, a great quality of life, and cost of living for the employees,” said dollar Shave Club CEO Larry Bodner, a Duke MBA graduate, at the grand opening event.”Instead of forcing employees to return to work, we wanted to create a magnet for a place they wanted to be.”
Durham Mayor Leo Williams welcomed the company, stating, “Welcome to the Bull City. This is your home now, just make it what you want it to be. We appreciate diversity here, we appreciate everyone being so different, everyone having their own story.”
Durham Chamber President Geoff Durham highlighted the alignment between the company’s values and the community’s culture, noting the diverse depiction within the new headquarters. He stated, ”Once I started to understand that, I realize how that corporate value align with this community.And then I look around this room, and I look at this space. What an amazing cross representation of exactly who this community is and exactly who this company is.”
