Yamamoto‘s One-Hit Gem Not Enough as Dodgers Suffer walk-Off Loss to Giants
SAN FRANCISCO – A dominant pitching performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto went unrewarded Friday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers were defeated 5-1 by the San Francisco Giants in 10 innings at Oracle Park. The loss ended the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak.
Yamamoto allowed just one hit – an RBI double by Willy Adames with one out in the first inning – before retiring the next 20 consecutive batters. He finished his outing with 10 strikeouts over seven innings, throwing 91 pitches. The game remained tied 1-1 after Michael Contento hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh.
However, the Giants rallied in the bottom of the 10th, culminating in a game-ending grand slam by Patrick Bailey. This marks the second consecutive start where Yamamoto has delivered a stellar performance without earning a win.
On September 6th, Yamamoto came within two outs of a no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles, only to see the Dodgers fall 4-3 on a walk-off.
“My condition was really good. I’m managing to head into the game with a proper plan,” Yamamoto stated after the game. “I believe I have about two more starts (in the regular season). I’ll be keeping myself on my toes until the end before entering October (for the postseason).”
In a separate contest, Yusei Kikuchi pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits, but also received a no-decision as the Los Angeles Angels lost to the Seattle Mariners 2-1.
