Dorgali Mourns the Loss of Dr. Maddalena Carta
The town of Dorgali is in mourning following the death of Dr. maddalena Carta, age 38, who passed away after a sudden illness. Dr. Carta had been practicing as a general practitioner in dorgali for just over a year and quickly became a vital part of the community.
Dr. carta provided care for over 1,800 patients and was known for her professionalism and dedication. Initial symptoms of her illness emerged in recent days, but were reportedly initially downplayed, potentially due to her commitment to ensuring continued medical coverage in an area already facing healthcare shortages.
Her condition rapidly worsened, requiring hospitalization first at San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro. She was then transported by helicopter to the Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari and admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Dr. Carta’s heart stopped beating today.
Dorgali is already grappling with a meaningful shortage of doctors – currently lacking three general practitioners – and Dr. Carta’s passing leaves a considerable void. Mayor Angela Testone recently appealed to the Nuoro health authority (ASL) for temporary medical support, but the community is now focused on grief.
The ASL has issued an urgent call for proposals to activate an ASCOT service. Dr. Carta was also scheduled to participate in a scientific conference on October 4th in Nuoro, titled “let us breathe nuoro – idiopathic lung fibrosis and rare lung diseases,” organized by IPF Sardegna ODV, an organization she helped found.
A funeral service for Dr. Maddalena Carta will be held on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the parish church of Dorgali.
