Doctor Fears Mother Influenced Daughter’s Cancer Treatment Refusal

London, UK – A family is grappling with profound grief and accusations following the death of Paloma Shemirani, who succumbed to cancer in July 2024. Her brothers, Gabriel and Sebastian, have publicly stated they believe their mother’s actions and beliefs directly contributed to their sister’s passing.

Paloma, a graduate of the University of Cambridge, began experiencing chest pains shortly after completing her studies. Medical examinations revealed a mass in her lung, leading to a diagnosis of cancer. Doctors informed her that while the condition was potentially fatal if untreated, she had an 80% chance of recovery with medical intervention.

According to Paloma’s boyfriend, her mother spent two days with her as an inpatient at Maidstone Hospital. He suggested this period might have influenced Paloma’s decision to refuse chemotherapy. Her brother, Gabriel, initiated legal proceedings seeking an assessment of the appropriate medical treatment for Paloma. Though, she passed away before the legal case could be resolved.

Sebastian Shemirani shared his anguish with the BBC, stating, “My sister has passed away as a direct consequence of my mum’s actions and beliefs. And I don’t want anyone else to go through the same pain or loss that I have.”

The Independent has reached out to Kate Shemirani for comment on these allegations.
