Doctor Faces Misconduct Tribunal Over Blood-Stained Glove Allegations

Doctor Faces Misconduct Tribunal Over Blood-Stained Glove Allegations

October 13, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Dr. Syeda Siddiqui, an ophthalmologist registered with the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians, is scheduled to face a General Medical Council (GMC) misconduct tribunal beginning 19 October 2024. The proceedings follow an investigation into allegations that Dr. Siddiqui examined patients while wearing blood-stained, non-sterile gloves.

The GMC alleges that the incidents occurred at Community Health and Eyecare Ltd (CHEC) facilities. On 7 August 2024, Dr. Siddiqui is accused of examining two patients at the clinic in Warrington, Cheshire, using gloves contaminated with the blood of a previous patient. She faces a further allegation regarding a patient examination at the CHEC Stockport clinic on 10 December 2024, where she reportedly used non-sterile, contaminated gloves. According to the investigation, the doctor had been performing “minor operations” on other individuals prior to these examinations.

Additional Allegations of Misconduct

Beyond the glove-related claims, the GMC has presented further allegations regarding Dr. Siddiqui’s professional conduct. The regulatory body claims that the doctor, who qualified from the University of Manchester in 1984, collected used, non-sterile medical equipment to take home.

The hearing notice also outlines accusations of dishonesty. The GMC alleges that when challenged regarding her actions, Dr. Siddiqui claimed the December incident was an “isolated incident.” Furthermore, she is accused of falsely stating that her conduct was “normal practice” at another CHEC branch, despite reportedly knowing this to be untrue.

Interim Practice Restrictions

While the case remains pending, Dr. Siddiqui has been placed under conditions of practice. These restrictions include a formal prohibition on performing any surgical procedures, with the exception of life-threatening emergencies, unless she is under direct supervision. The upcoming misconduct tribunal is estimated to conclude on 2 November 2024.
