March 20, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

A tightening race at the top of the Bezirksoberliga table saw FC Adler Weidhausen III maintain their lead, but with both TSG 2005 Bamberg II and FC Baunach closing the gap following recent matches. Weidhausen III secured a dominant 9-1 victory over SG Köppelsdorf on Saturday, while a 5-5 draw for FC Adler Weidhausen II against Bamberg II allowed Baunach to move within one point of the leading pair after their 7-3 win against TTC Burgkunstadt II.

The match between Weidhausen III and Köppelsdorf proved largely one-sided. According to match results, five of the eight individual games were won without the loss of a single set. Tania Fischer and Alexander Busch were particularly dominant for Weidhausen III, each securing three straight-set victories against Köppelsdorf’s top players. Andre Fischer ultimately conceded a single point to the visitors, bringing the final score to 9-1.

The encounter between TSG 2005 Bamberg II and FC Adler Weidhausen II proved far more competitive. Weidhausen II initially found themselves trailing 3-0 after losing both doubles matches and the opening singles contest. However, a comeback spearheaded by Christian Leffer, Andre Fischer, and Yannick Rauscher leveled the score at 3-3. Alexander Busch and Rauscher then added to Weidhausen’s momentum, bringing them within reach of victory. The match ultimately hinged on a closely contested final singles match, where Andreas Zack of Bamberg II defeated Andre Fischer in a four-set thriller, 3-1 (10-12, 12-10, 13-11, 12-10), securing the draw.

Elsewhere in the Bezirksoberliga, the women’s league saw a 5-5 draw between TTC Tiefenlauter and TTC Thann. The match was closely fought, with the overall set count ending 20-16 in favor of Tiefenlauter. In a separate match, TSV Unterlauter defeated TV 1886 Ebersdorf 6-4, establishing a two-point lead after securing three consecutive singles victories following an initial doubles defeat.
