Disney Cuts 300 Jobs and Offers Early Retirement for Executives

Disney Cuts 300 Jobs and Offers Early Retirement for Executives

October 4, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Up to one year of severance pay and continued health coverage for twelve months are now on the table for long-tenuring executives at The Walt Disney Company, part of an ongoing corporate cost-reduction strategy that recently claimed approximately 300 jobs.

Corporate Headquarters and Regional Hubs Hit by Layoffs

The latest wave of reductions primarily targets workers based at the corporate headquarters in Burbank, California, as well as operational hubs in other regions. Individuals close to the company confirmed the job cuts to the Los Angeles Times, underscoring the deep structural contraction currently underway at the entertainment conglomerate.

These workforce reductions follow earlier dismissals that eliminated roughly 1,000 positions in April, followed by an additional round of cuts in July.

Josh D'Amaro Initiates Structural Reorganization

The downsizing accompanies structural changes following the creation of a new marketing division. This operational reorganization stems from a broader restructuring plan initiated by Chief Executive Officer Josh D’Amaro, following changes in executive leadership earlier in the year that relegated Bob Iger from his previous functions.

Disney Offers Voluntary Early Retirement for Executives

Alongside involuntary layoffs, Disney implemented a voluntary early retirement program for eligible executives. Individuals familiar with the matter noted that this program began rolling out in late August, providing qualifying veteran employees with up to one year of severance pay and company health coverage for the same twelve-month duration.

While the voluntary retirement initiative is active, corporate leadership has not yet finalized the exact count of executives who will exit under the program before the end of the year.

Corporate Contraction Scope Remains Undisclosed

Questions remain regarding the ultimate scope of the corporate contraction. Although sources confirmed the departure of nearly 300 employees during the first week of October, the full extent of the executive retirements remains undisclosed, and corporate representatives have not specified whether additional rounds of layoffs will follow the April, July, and October reductions.
