The trailer for “The Dinosaurs,” a recent Netflix documentary series produced by Steven Spielberg and narrated by Morgan Freeman, has garnered 6.8 million views in just three days, signaling significant public interest in the project. The four-episode series, created by Dan Tapster, Keith Scholey, and Alastair Fothergill, will debut on the streaming platform on March 6th, according to Netflix.

“The Dinosaurs” will chart the history of these prehistoric creatures, spanning 165 million years and examining the forces that shaped their evolution, from the earliest dinosaurs to their eventual extinction. The trailer showcases several species, including the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Mamenchisaurus, Plateosaurus, and Anchiornis. The series promises to delve into the mysteries of the planet’s past, exploring environments ranging from the depths of the ocean to wild landscapes.

Spielberg’s involvement extends beyond his role as producer through Amblin Entertainment. Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), the visual effects company founded by George Lucas and now part of Lucasfilm Ltd., is also contributing to the series, handling animation and special effects. ILM’s recent work includes projects like Avatar and Jurassic Park, and in 2025, the company was involved in 16 films, including several nominated for the 2026 Academy Awards, such as The Sinners, Frankenstein, and F1: The Movie.

This project reflects Spielberg’s longstanding fascination with dinosaurs, a theme prominently featured in his 1993 blockbuster, Jurassic Park. The new documentary series represents a return to that subject matter, leveraging both his production expertise and the advanced visual effects capabilities of ILM.
